Fantastic on a cold, wet winter's night! An old time remedy for a cold...believed to have been a pub drink in Edinburgh, Scotland nearly 300 years ago. The water came from Tod's Well - hence the name - Hot Toddy! (Some argue it originated in India with palm sap, but I like the Scottish origin best.) Who needs a cold to enjoy this? |
1 & 1/2 or 2 ounces of Scotch whiskey (or whisky, if you're in Scotland) - you can use bourbon or dark rum, as well
1 & 1/2 teaspoons honey or sugar (you can use less, but it's traditionally sweet) 1 slice lemon (optional) hot water to taste - you can fill the cup or less for a stronger version Use a dash of any variation of flavoring spices: cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, or ginger
