The original recipe is from Aunt Bessie's friend, Mildred Scott in Gulfport, MS. Aunt Bessie used to make it every single Christmas. Once she gave me my own tin of it to hide from everyone else!!
Ingredients
1 stick butter
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup pecans, chopped small

Steps
- Melt butter in a heavy-bottom medium saucepan.
- In a bowl, stir together the cocoa, sugar, and milk. Add to the melted butter and stir constantly until mixture reaches a fast boil. Cook two more minutes, stirring all the while.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla and pecans.
- Beat with a spoon until ready to pour into a butter dish to cool thoroughly.
