Irene's chocolate Macaroons

This was my mother-in-law, Irene's, recipe. She made the best macaroons on two continents!
Ingredients
3 egg whites
1/3 cup sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon juice
3/4 cup coconut flakes
1 & 1/4 cups toasted almond slivers
3/4 cup baking chocolate, ground
1/2 cup ground almonds

Steps
- Beat egg whites with sifted sugar. Add vanilla and lemon juice.
- Beat until the mixture forms high peaks.
- Fold in the rest of the ingredients.
- Form into small balls, place on greased cookie sheet, and let sit at room temperature for about an hour.
- Bake at 300° F until done.
