There's nothing quite so soothing as an old-fashioned custard.
- Pour milk into a saucepan or double boiler and slightly scald. Don't let it burn!
- Beat eggs in a bowl; stir in sugar, salt and vanilla.
- Add a little of the hot milk to the egg mixture and stir to warm without cooking the eggs.
- Slowly add the rest of the milk, stirring.
- Pour custard into 4 bake-safe cups and place in a roasting pan with about an inch or two of water in the bottom.
- Bake at 325 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until a knife inserted comes out clean.
- Serve warm or cold with a dash of ground nutmeg sprinkled on top. To be really decadent - add some whipped cream!
