Blueberry Küchen (German Cake)

I picked fresh blueberries (21 pounds) and made this  - among MANY other blueberry-themed dishes.

Cake Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons grated lemon rind
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
1/4 cup melted butter 
1 egg, beaten slightly with a fork
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups blueberries, fresh or frozen
Topping Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup melted butter

  1. Add first 6 ingredients to a large mixing bowl; stir to combine.
  2. Add the milk, butter, egg, and vanilla; using an electric mixer, beat for 2 minutes or until well blended.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased 13x9 inch baking pan.
  4. Sprinkle with blueberries or I just stir them into the batter before pouring it into the pan.
  5. Now make the topping by stirring together the sugar and flour. 
  6. Add the melted butter and stir with a fork until it's kind of crumbly.
  7. Sprinkle the crumbly topping over the blueberry mixture in the pan.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes or until lightly browned.
