Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Jar

Jar Contents & Steps
1 quart Mason jar
1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 and 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips or chopped semisweet baking chocolate
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar

- Whisk together in a bowl: flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Next, layer in any order: flour mixture, chocolate chips, white sugar, and brown sugar. Use a spoon to press each layer down.
- Screw on a lid, attach recipe label (see to the right) and decorate as you like, if giving for a gift.

Extra Ingredients Needed for 1 Dozen Cookies:
1 and 1/2 sticks butter, softened
1 large egg
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375° F.
- Mix together the butter, egg, and vanilla.
- Add the cookie mix from the jar and nuts (if you're using any). Stir together until well blended.
- Drop by rounded tablespoons onto and ungreased baking sheet or one lined with baking paper.
- Bake for about 10 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and set aside for about 4 - 5 minutes, then cool on wire racks.
