A Southern favorite, but strangely - my mother never made it!
1 pound fresh okra or 2 packages of frozen (cut into round slices) 1 & 1/2 cups corn meal or part corn meal, part flour 1/3 cup oil salt & pepper to taste
Slice okra (defrost, if using frozen) into round slices about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
In a brown paper grocery sack, pour the corn meal, salt, and pepper.
Put in the okra and shake until okra is covered.
Heat a oil in a cast iron skillet until hot. Put in the okra and fry to golden brown, stirring once or twice to make sure all sides get fried. (about 10 to 12 minutes total)
Remove from skillet, shake on salt and pepper, and lay on paper towels to cool.
