Hush,  Hush  Puppies

Everyone always raved over Aunt Bessie's hush puppies.  They're great with fried fish, a real Gulf Coast treat.

Yield: 2 dozen
Ingredients
2 cups self-rising cornmeal 

1/2 cup self-rising flour
1 egg
1 onion, grated
 3/4 bottle of beer
Steps
  1. Combine cornmeal, flour, and grated onion. Add beer and egg, stirring well.
  2. Carefully drop batter by tablespoonfuls into deep pot of hot oil. Fry until hush puppies are golden brown. Fry only a few at a time to prevent oil from cooling too much.
