Everyone always raved over Aunt Bessie's hush puppies. They're great with fried fish, a real Gulf Coast treat.
- Combine cornmeal, flour, and grated onion. Add beer and egg, stirring well.
- Carefully drop batter by tablespoonfuls into deep pot of hot oil. Fry until hush puppies are golden brown. Fry only a few at a time to prevent oil from cooling too much.
