Macaroni and Cheese

One of Mama's favorite foods - she just loved it.   Her actual recipe varied - but this is the most consistent and it's delicious!

Ingredients
1/ 2 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 & 1/2 cups milk
1 tsp salt
​​1/4 tsp black pepper
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked
dash paprika
Steps
  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions and drain well.
  2. Melt butter in a frying pan and stir in the flour.  Stir constantly until lightly brown, then slowly pour in milk.  Keep stirring all the time!
  3. Stir until thickened, then remove from heat.
  4. Stir in salt, pepper, and shredded cheese.
  5. Slowly stir in the cooked and drained macaroni, then pour the whole thing into a greased casserole baking dish.  Sprinkle top with a bit of paprika, if you wish.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes at 350° F until lightly browned.
